Western Cutlery Company started production in 1896. The knife designs survived two ownership changes in its long history before the final owners, Camillus Cutlery, went out of business in 2007. Western knives are outdoor knvfes used for hunting and fishing, and early models and those used by soldiers in World War II, enjoy significance with knife collectors. Western knives are found in a variety of shapes and materials.

The CrossTrail has good traction under extreme conditions with its spine jimping and the textured Delrin handles are very grippy. Other features include a full tang construction, a lanyard hole and a tough nylon sheath. Knives are made of titanium bonded stainless steel, are through hardened to hold an edge and will withstand the impossible task and continue delivering over extended use.
